It seems like a really good idea for a film, but it never really takes off and finishes pretty quickly when it realises it has nowhere to go. The only really effective scenes are when he first takes the drug and ten when he first starts to have some “trouble” with it — he has a pretty bad trip — which brings up some quite cool continuous zooming in through the streets of New York. Other than that not much to say, two minor action scenes and one of them doesn’t even feature the lead character (but he is on the phone) I never felt as if it would end badly for him, even in the later (sort of) action bit, I was more thinking why isn’t everyone doing this drug? (a fact the film does try to explain, and I almost believe it too, although it only shows one other “successful” user)

The wrapup as I said, seems a little rushed, almost like they realised they had hardly used De Niro and wondered how to bring him back in, and then, just like that, it’s all over.

Enjoyable, short, slightly forgettable and a bit limited (see what I did there?)

I’m going to try and write on here with all of the films and a good amount of the tv that I watch. I think I could do with a little star ratings plugin to go on here as well.

Also thinking about getting my own domain back for hosting the WordPress site, less restrictive with what I can put on there and I can still use the same themes or whatever.

Felt like it was trying to be a clever hard sci-fi film like Blade Runner with the action and plot of Total Recall, but it fails miserably. It also gives away how the whole thing is going to end quite early as well and rather obviously at that, especially if you’ve seen Brazil.

Still I made it through to the end so it couldn’t be that bad eh?

Secondly why was John Malkovich in this? He’s criminally underused, has an appalling wig and doesn’t even get to ham it up too much, which would have been quite enjoyable.

Malkovich isn’t the only one who is under used, the whole cast is basically racing through their (appallingly bad) lines, and Megan Fox barely gets to do anything, which is criminal really.

Plotwise the film is pretty thin as well. Malkvovich steals a weapon and goes to use it on Washington. Jonah Hex stops him. Thats it.

Really really poor, and quite dissapointing, I think that has taken Josh Brolins career several steps backwards, hopefully he can make it back with the Coens help (again).

Still getting used to the last of those items, have a nice ensuite room in a shared house, very much a family atmosphere, not sure how much I care for the other people though

Anyway, signed up for a enw service today called 750 Words, the idea being that you write 750 words in a private unedited journal. I say sign up, but I actually connected using Facebook, as I think signups have been borked by a bit too much attention too soon in the products lifespan. Regardless it’s a cool little app, nice clean design, just gives you space to write you stream of consciousness nonsense (well in my case anyway). When you have done your midless scrawling you can have a look at the stats, a glimpse of which below.

As you can see it rates your mood and summarises what you talked about, without directly referring to it, all very clever, and if I let you see all of it, you might get too large a glimpse into my psyche, hence the page cutting off

It remains to be seen whether I will use it enough to be a truly useful tool, but if I do end using it loads I see no reason why I wouldn’t be more than willing to pay a snall amount for monthly usage of the site.

I thought, “cool, I can finally/maybe get me an invite to start waving”, so I tried to leave a comment in the way that I had done in the past, using my Facebook login. I should have read more carefully, seems lifehacker (and presumably opther Gawker sites) have a custom made comments thing, where you have to sign up and be approved for your comments to be shown.

Well that’s fair enough, everyone hates comment spam, and idiots trying to start flame wars. So I signed up last weekend, and I left a few comments over the next few days.

I was on there today, read an article I thought I could comment on and went to do it. I was told to login and I would be redirected. I wasn’t redirected and I was already logged in, I clicked to check my account and noticed “Comments are not enabled for this account.” across the top of my info. Hmmm that’s odd, when I went back to the front page, I noticed a message was waiting for me, i opened it only to read that I had been banned!

Why I was banned I don’t know, obviously trying to add a legitimate comment goes against their rules? I didn’t say anything inflammatory or rude, and really wasn’t offending anyone, so why the ban?

Anyway, I have contacted them through the form on their accounts page, but I don’t hold out much hope for it, I’m not some celebrity or something, not even on wordpress.com

It’s a shame as Lifehacker is actually one of my favourite sites, I just won’t be leaving comments there anytime soon.

Unfortunately the links back to my profile only appear on US based Google searches, I have no idea why they haven’t rolled that out across all of their domains but there you go. I only appear at the bottom of the first UK page with a link to my photos on Twitter, which, ironically, I haven’t used in about three years.

Having said all that, I’m not sure I actually want my Facebook page linked directly to me from Google.

Ok that’s not strictly true, yes jquery can do these things, but it’s javascript that is actually doing them, jquery is just a javascript library after all.

The thing is I’m getting slightly pissed off at the number of people saying an effect on a webpage is “jquery”, it seems to have become a verb for any javascript effects on a website. Another developer even said to me a few days ago, “can you do it in one of those windows like jquery?”, well yes I can but it’s not just like jquery. If we are being correct, I think the first time I saw a modal popup done with a javascript library it was probably Prototype with scriptaculous.

ANyway, it’s just slowly bubbling away and at some point I will reach boiling point and explode, it’s javascript ok?

Only problem is that once I lose it, establish that its just javascript, I then have to go back to explaining that javascript ISN’T Java, and that’s just basically going back to the start.

p.s. Personally I prefer Mootools anyway.
